Mood en Scène is a small business, and this website exists so that property owners can ask us for a conversation. We collect only what you choose to send through our contact form, plus anonymous, aggregate visit statistics. We use no advertising trackers and no analytics cookies, and we do not sell personal information.

Who we are

Mood en Scène is a boutique short-term-rental co-hosting and property management business operated by Jillian Mood. We serve property owners near Greater Boston (Massachusetts, USA), Montréal and the Eastern Townships (Québec, Canada). In this policy, "we" and "us" mean Mood en Scène.

The person responsible for the protection of personal information is Jillian Mood. You can reach her through the contact form on this site. Please mark your message "Privacy request".

Use of the site is also subject to our Terms of Service.

Information you give us

The contact form is voluntary. If you send it, we receive:

  • your name and email address;
  • your phone number (optional);
  • the location of your property (town or region);
  • the number of bedrooms (optional);
  • whether the home is already listed, and a link to the listing if you choose to share one;
  • your message;
  • the language in which you were using the site.

With each submission, our server also records the date and time, your IP address and your browser's user-agent. We use these to prevent spam and abuse.

Why we collect it

We use your enquiry to reply to you and to assess whether your home is a fit for our services. We collect it with your consent, which you give by sending the form. We do not use it for any other purpose.

Where your information goes

  • Submissions are stored on the site's server, which runs on Fly.io infrastructure located in Toronto, Canada.
  • When you send the form, a notification email containing your submission is sent to Jillian Mood. That email is delivered through Resend, an email delivery provider based in the United States. Your enquiry details are therefore transmitted to, and processed in, the United States for that purpose.
  • Jillian Mood's mailbox provider also stores those emails.
  • Our domain name service (DNS) is provided by Cloudflare.

As a result, your personal information may be communicated outside Québec, including to Ontario and to the United States, where it is subject to the laws of those places.

Analytics without cookies

Our visit statistics are first-party: they run on the site's own server. We use no third-party analytics, no advertising trackers, no fingerprinting scripts and no cross-site tracking.

For each page view, the server records:

  • the path of the page;
  • the host name of the referring site (never the full referring address);
  • a utm_source campaign tag, if the link you followed had one;
  • your device class (mobile or desktop);
  • the site language;
  • your approximate location: country, plus province or state for Canada and the United States.

To count unique visitors, the server computes a one-way hash from a random value (a "salt") that changes every day, your IP address and your browser's user-agent. The salt is discarded every day, so a visitor cannot be recognised from one day to the next. IP addresses and user-agents are not stored in our analytics.

We also record, anonymously and in aggregate, whether visitors reached, started or sent the contact form. We keep only daily aggregate counts.

Approximate location

To choose a default language (French for visitors in Québec) and to produce the aggregate location statistics described above, the server looks up your IP address against a geolocation database embedded in the site. The lookup happens in memory on our own server. Your IP address is not sent to any third party for this purpose.

Cookies

This site sets one functional cookie, named lang. It remembers the language you chose, lasts one year, and is set only if you use the language switch.

We set no analytics or advertising cookies, which is why you see no cookie banner. A strictly necessary session cookie is also used in the site operator's private admin area. Visitors never receive it.

Links to other sites

This site links to Airbnb listings and to third-party sources. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for their practices.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell or rent personal information.
  • We do not use your information for automated decision-making or profiling.
  • This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

How long we keep information

We keep enquiries for as long as needed to respond and to manage any business relationship that results, and then we delete them. You can ask us to delete your enquiry sooner. Aggregate analytics contain no personal information and are kept indefinitely.

Security

The whole site is served over HTTPS. Access to enquiries is restricted to the site operator, behind an authenticated admin area. Admin credentials are stored in hashed form, and the site applies rate limiting. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

Your rights

You may ask us to:

  • tell you what personal information we hold about you and give you access to it;
  • correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
  • delete your information;
  • stop using it, by withdrawing your consent.

If you are in Québec, the Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector (as amended by Law 25) also gives you the right to be informed about how your information is handled, and the right to file a complaint with the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec. Elsewhere in Canada, the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) applies. If you are in the United States, you may have additional rights under the laws of your state.

To make a request, use the contact form and mark your message "Privacy request". We respond within 30 days. We may need to confirm your identity before acting on a request.

Technology we use

  • Hosting: Fly.io (servers in Toronto, Canada).
  • Email delivery: Resend (United States).
  • DNS: Cloudflare.
  • Fonts: self-hosted on our own server. The site makes no requests to Google Fonts.
